Unreal Engine
Client - Personal Projects
What we delivered - Animated Shorts
Creative Team - Josh Westhead
Over the past year, I’ve immersed myself in the incredible world of Unreal Engine, crafting epic scenes and animated shorts to enhance my animation skills. These personal projects have been my way of exploring the software, learning through various online courses and tutorials to create stunning environments. By combining different software tools, I’ve brought these visions to life, blending my knowledge and skills into each creation. This is just the beginning of my journey with Unreal Engine, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next.
Nissan GT-R Reveal
I set out to create a studio environment within a warehouse to showcase the reveal of
the Nissan GT-R. Using Unreal Engine, I designed the scene, with Cinema 4D assisting in modeling certain elements. I meticulously configured the lighting setup and planned multiple camera movements to capture the desired shots. Once I had the footage in Unreal, I transitioned to After Effects for post-production, adding effects and compositing to enhance the overall mood. Finally, I wrapped up the project in Premiere Pro, polishing
it with final editsand sound design to complete the presentation.
Another Planet
As I explored the process of building environments in Unreal Engine, I set out to create a short animation from the perspective of a hero awakening on an unfamiliar planet as their system reboots.
I focused on composing the environment and models while learning to apply materials to objects within Unreal to bring the scene to life. Once the camera shot was finalized, I designed graphics
(GFX) in After Effects, tracking them to the Unreal render and enhancing the scene with additional post effects. This project was an exciting blend of creativity and technical skill development.
Jungle Memorial
After completing a few online courses, I embarked on my first personal project in Unreal Engine.
I thoroughly enjoyed designing the environment and crafting the animation, aiming to immerse
the viewer in a mythical memorial site. To center the scene, I used a model sword as the focal
point, bringing it to life as the camera moved into position. Animating the sword provided an
excellent introduction to Unreal Engine’s tools and functionality, making it a rewarding and educational first project.
